We have finally made it into San Diego, where this night we find ourselves into the year 2014 with high spirits. On NYE we set base camp in beautiful Ocean Beach, and actually slept on the dunes we had so anxiously strove to arrive upon.
San Diego is our staging point for the push east, and so far, we have made contact with any and all intended parties. The way this upcoming week looks like is that on the 7th we shall meet up with VfP and OccupySD in an attempt to forge stronger relations with veterans and the Occupy. There are two objectives here in SD: to rest and refit, and conceive, design and execute political actions relevant to the situation here in San Diego. This authors' overiding idea is to over turn recent policy changes in access to the PUBLIC library which currently excludes people with back packs of "certain dimensions" from enjoying the friuts of said PUBLIC librarys' services.
This is cl;early an act of discrimination against those of certain "class affiliations" and prevents those of us who rely on said PUBLIC services from continuing our work as we move about the country unencumbered from Federal dependence...the recent revelations from the California Dept of Motor Vehicles that a photo ID is necessary to obtain a photo ID, in addition to further restrictions of our liberties, such as "living" in our own vehicles (which must NOT exceed more than 7 feet in height) only adds grist to the mill of revolution.
But before we digress into yet ANOTHER anti-Establishment rant, we want to throw out appropriate measures of gratitude, to those who have shown us much hospitality and kindness during the week behind us (which was not an easy week folks).
We ran into both veterans from recent conflicts as well as supportive ACTIVE DUTY Service Members that we found most amenable to our cause.
For as a new sign on our display reads:
TROOPS!
As you are, we once were, and
as WE are you may become.
This holds far too much meaning for the author to discuss here. We have found safe haven, and will spend the week attempting to set up the launch party for VetFest before we knock eastwards.
